Oh my gosh, STOP IT. This is amazing. Thoughts for the syllabus: something from Niko Stratis (https://www.anxietyshark.ca); something from the book TWEE by Marc Spitz: https://www.harpercollins.com/products/twee-marc-spitz?variant=32116881293346; & that episode of This American Life when Starlee Kine gets help from Phil Collins to write a breakup/love song: https://www.thisamericanlife.org/339/break-up. WISH I COULD TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure if it would fit into your syllabus but I’ve had this new-ish Sasha Keable track on repeat. The vibe and production are pretty typical of stuff I’m into but specifically the “who gave you permission to be so perfect…” delivery gets me every time (especially in her COLORS performance). It’s so accusatory and heartbreaking while delivering the highest compliment you can give to a person. I love it. Also, I’ve been hoping someone - more equipped than myself to write about this kind of topic - would put together something on R&B and Queer Love (maybe centering artists like Keable and Kehlani??)

Any way I love this class so much, it’s so interesting to me!! I’ve also been thinking a lot about Black women building spaces for self love via hip hop and Therapy.

Doechii and Rapsody’s most recent project got me thinking about this recently.

Thanks Kabelo!! Appreciate you reading and YES, this is something that I've been thinking about as well, a little with SZA but definitely because of Doechii. I also feel ill-equipped to write about it, but I wonder if pushing the love song stuff will help me find the right people. I KNOW somebody is writing about it.
